II CONSEQUENTLY The Ionic mode is Major (major natural scale) Formula: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Dorian mode is minor ( minor scale with nat.6) Formula: 1,2,b3,4,5,6,b7. Phrygian mode is minor (minor scale with b2,b6,b7) Formula: 1,b2,b3,4,5,b6,b7. Lydian mode is Mayor 4+ Major natural scale with 4+ (augmented) Formula: 1,2,3,4+,5,6,7. Mixolydian mode is Dominant Dominant scale Formula: 1,2,3,4,5,6,b7. Aeolian mode is minor Minor natural scale Formula: 1,2,b3,4,5,b6,b7. Locrian mode is sub-diminished (m7b5) minor scale with b2 Formula: 1,b2,b3,4,b5,b6,b7. ….. III IN FLAMENCO MODES ARE USED AS FOLLOWS For minor chords we use Dorian and Aeolian (minor natural scale) For sub diminished chords we use locrian ---- For mayor chords we use both Ionian and Lidyan modes (depending on the case) ---- For dominant chords generally we use Phrygian over a V7b9 , which means Ionian played over the b6th of that dominant chord. (Mixolidyan can also be used as well provided its not played over any V7b9 chord) ……… Note: In flamenco to describe melodically any dominant chord (viz. in modal language or with any other scale) the first thing that we have to observe first is if the chord in question has a b9 or otherwise. ….. IV HOW WE CONVERT IONIAN MODE INTO ANY MODE In flamenco we can use every mode, but we will only think of them from one mode, namely the Ionian mode or major natural scale (fingerings) Therefore using Ionian mode from different points of the chords we have the Ionian mode as a master key, and next (to that end) is the table of EQUIVALENCES 1) Ionian is Ionian when played from 1st of the chord 2) Ionian becomes Dorian when played from b7th of the chord 3) Ionian becomes Phrygian when played from b6th of the chord 4) Ionian becomes Lydian when played from 5th of the chord 5) Ionian becomes Mixolidian when played from 4th of the chord 6) Ionian becomes Aeolian when played from b3th of the chord 7) Ionian Becomes Locrian when played from b2th of the chord …. V *HOW TO FIND OUT THE TONIC OF OUR STANDARD MAJOR SCALE FINGERINGS (6 digits, it reads from 6th to 1st strings) Fingering 1. C#) x4xx2x Fingering 2. Eb) xx1x4x Fingering 3. Ab) 4xx1x(4) Fingering 4. Bb) x1x3xx Fingering 5. F) 1x3xx(1) Fingering 6. F#) 2x4xx(2) ........ *Note: When we play modal stuff just on fingering 3 we will not play “passing note” ......... …. VI Its important to remember that in the Paco de Lucia΄s style the notes to solve on a V7b9 chord that is the landing notes are either the root or the 5th of the dominant chord as a rule. ………………… VII Tonality is the set of relationships, hierarchy and functions that all the sounds of our, Tempered (temperado) musical system keep around one of them, a pre-chosen note appointed to be the tonal center which is called Tonic. Chord mean 3 notes (or more) play simultaneously. The basic chords are made out of tonic (1) 3th and 5th … VIII The distance between 2 notes is called interval. Then there is a diatonic interval (which changes the name) and chromatic interval (which does not change the name) example of diatonic is D & C# example of chromatic interval is D ^ Db ….. http://www.piano-keyboard-guide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/32-key-keyboard-1.jpg IX *INTERVALS 2th = 1 tone b2th = 1/2 3th = 2 t. b3th = 1t ½ 4th = 2t. ½ 4+ & b5 = 3t. 5th = 3t ½ 5+ & b6 = 4t. 6th = 4t ½. b7 = 5t. 7th = 5t ½. ….. 9th = 2th 11th = 4th 13th = 6th X KEY OF THE OPEN STRINGS 6th = E 5th= A 4th = D 3th = G 2th = B 1st = E [10:16:33 AM] *** Call ended, duration 31:26 ***
