Festival of Words Workshops offer a chance for participants to learn from established authors. Authors will lead students through invention techniques, helping them to write their own poem or prose. The sessions will not include critique-only writing, but they will provide guidance and inspiration, and will present an opportunity to share your workshop writing if you wish.
Workshops are available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. To reserve a place, please send a donation of $10 ($20 for 3-workshop package) or more, and your place will be reserved.
PAYMENTS can be made through ZEFFY, or checks can be mailed to Festival of Words,506 Plaza Village Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506
We will read some narrative poems. After reading those, we will talk about the way poetry can function as a personal archive, digging beneath the surface, when it captures or concretizes a moment in our lives. Give specificity to your archive. Tell your own story by answering one of these questions:
Where did you grow up and what the people were like?
When was a time when you felt connected with nature and what were the circumstances that made you feel connected?
What about the last time you were angry, what caused that anger?
Who was your soul mate or kindred spirit? What made them significant?
Why did you fail at something, what circumstances led to that outcome?
Who is someone that you miss and why?
Please make a list, or once you start, write for ten minutes without stopping.
Max Enrollment: 15 (12 seats left)
