Workshop Form
Festival of Words Workshops offer a chance for participants to learn from established authors. Authors will lead students through invention techniques, helping them to write their own poem or prose. The sessions will not include critique-only writing, but they will provide guidance and inspiration, and will present an opportunity to share your workshop writing if you wish.

Workshops are available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. To reserve a place, please send a donation of $10 or more, and your place will be reserved.

PAYMENTS can be made through PAYPAL, or checks can be mailed to Festival of Words,506 Plaza Village Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506

Writing ekphrastic poetry offers a variety of ways to generate poems. Combining close observation of a painting with contemporary response, the poet both interprets a work of art while simultaneously creating a new work, thus creating and expanding an intertextual dialogue between poet, audience and historical context.

In this workshop, participants will be presented a variety of ekphrastic poems by Ken Hada (and accompanying paintings); they will discuss the techniques involved, and then write their own drafts from pictures as presented to the group. Those drafts, shared with the group, will illuminate the great variety of writing options to be found in ekphrastic work.
