Rules and Guidelines
Entries must be received by October 15, 2011
Winners will be announced October 24, 2011

This contest is co-sponsored by the Acadiana Writing Project and is open to 6-12th grade writers from across Acadiana.

  • Each student may enter the contest once.
  • The three categories are poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
  • All work must be original. Work must be typed or legibly written.
  • Poems may not exceed 50 lines in length.
  • Fiction and creative nonfiction entries may not exceed 500 words in length.
  • A completed entry form must be stapled behind the submission.
  • Student’s personal information should NOT appear on the entry.
  • Teachers should send all entries from their classes together in one envelope.
  • Teachers/ facilitators must complete a Facilitator form and provide a list of all entrants in your class.

First, second, and third place winners will receive certificates. All contest participants are invited to attend the awards ceremony at the South St. Landry Parish Community Library on November 3 at 5:30 pm. Readings by guest poets and an open mic will conclude the evening.

Entries may be picked up at the library during the week of November 14.
